The Possibility Club

Dec 17, 2018

Richard Freeman's podcast guest this week is someone who is building a head of steam through his decisions to tackle waste - and the conversations about waste - within the system where arguably it will have the biggest impact of all; education Nathan Atkinson is known from his regular TV appearances for the innovative work he has done throughout his headship of three schools. Named in the top 50 in the 2017 Global Teacher Awards Nathan is building a worldwide profile for his community led action. His most recent award-winning project is called Fuel for School. This is an initiative that provides schools with access to food that otherwise would have been thrown away, with three key objectives: remove hunger as a barrier to learning. Improve well being outcomes for children, highlight the global issue of food waste. From starting the project in his own school there are now 60 schools with access to food and the project is spreading across the country and beyond. We spoke to Nathan in November 2018 about his mission to change the conversation about sustainability in a way that puts most box-ticking policies to shame. The sound connection is patchy in places, but bear with it if you can. --- Useful links: Fuel For School https://fuelforschool.info/ 'Headteacher’s fight against hunger in schools applauded by health professionals' - https://www.hospitalityandcateringnews.com/2017/04/headteachers-fight-hunger-schools-applauded-health-professionals/ Nathan's speaker page https://www.schoolspeakers.co.uk/speaker-listings/nathan-atkinson-speaker aeroponics – Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeroponics Steven Ritz / The Green Bronx Machine https://greenbronxmachine.org/ Greggs Foundation https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/ --- Do check out our past interviews with change-makers in business, culture and education at thepossibilityclub.org and if you like them please subscribe, write a review, tell your friends - and contact us via social media if you have an idea for a future guest.
