This week’s podcast is a bit different to usual, as we put a spotlight on an event, rather than on an individual change-maker. On Friday 12th October 2018, it will be the annual Brighton Summit, a large gathering of business minds on the south coast convened by the Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce. We explore the purpose and passions that drive The Summit, and why it is genuinely different to other business conferences. This year's theme is 'Look Up'. Put down your phone for a minute. Imagine something. Think a big bigger than you are. What if your world connected with someone else? Can businesses lead change beyond simple profit and loss reports? --- Richard spoke to two of Brighton’s key figures, who both represent a very different side of the complex city eco-system. Both will be speaking and sharing ideas at The Summit, embodying the range of business thinking at the event. Andy Winter moved to the UK from South Africa because he would not serve in the army during apartheid, a principle indicative of a future career in practical social change and improving public services. Andy has worked for Brighton Housing Trust for 33 years, becoming Chief Executive in 2003. We talk about the role of the Housing Trust in Brighton’s fabric, and what place it has at a business conference. The second guest is Felicity Beckett, the person in charge of the video content for Picturehouse Cinemas. As she will explain, Felicity’s deep love of film led her to a 15 year career at Brighton’s Duke of York’s - the oldest cinema in Britain in the city that gave us the first moving image photography.
