The Possibility Club

Oct 22, 2018

Richard Freeman's special guest this week is Vic Goddard. Vic has been described as ‘the most famous headteacher in the UK’, following his decision to work with Channel 4 on the groundbreaking documentary series, ‘Educating Essex’. The BAFTA-winning programme looked under the bonnet of life at Passmores Academy, a modern comprehensive secondary school in Harlow, and the relationships and learning that happens in such a complex ecosystem. Vic’s whole life and mission has been in education and it is something about which he is outspoken and unafraid to defend - particularly when the spotlight is bright and the scrutiny intense. Vic’s 2014 book ‘The Best Job In The World’ is a call to arms for more people to join the teaching profession, especially to aspire to school leadership positions. We spoke in early autumn 2018, about TV, education policy, dealing with having a high profile and what the mission education school be. --- Useful links: Vic Goddard on Amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Job-World-Vic-Goddard/dp/1781351104 On inspiring teachers (The Guardian) - https://www.theguardian.com/education/2014/apr/29/vic-goddard-educating-essex-how-to-guide-heads 'Educating Essex' clips - https://www.channel4.com/programmes/educating-essex/videos/all/mr-goddard-head-teacher-interview/2828742166001 --- Have you checked out all of other interviews? - there are now over 60 past podcasts available on iTunes, Soundcloud are wherever you accessed this one.
